"GARBAGE IN, GARBAGE OUT"
At SHOT DOCTOR,
we have always believed that, while it's impossible to teach "size"
or "instinct", anyone can improve their shooting. Anyone!
Indeed, the whole process of "learning to shoot" is an exercise in
discipline that basketball teaches uniquely well. However, as this
discipline suffers, so does "sport," and the lesson that seems to be
the most forgotten is, "you reap what you sow."
At SHOT DOCTOR Shooting Camps, our philosophy is to teach
this message and reinforce it, using the specific skills of shooting
a basketball and other offensive elements of the game. Since
1981,
in local high school gyms throughout the U.S., thousands of boys and
girls ages 8-18 have repeatedly learned from the SHOT DOCTOR
that "hard work pays off, you get out what you put in, and that
practice makes permanent."
"TWO WRONGS DON'T MAKE A RIGHT"
At SHOT DOCTOR, we believe that, like many areas of
life, there is a right and a wrong way to shoot a
basketball. We learn to shoot the way that we learn to walk; we
pick it up through observation and "on the streets." Along the way,
this process inevitably produces its share of bad habits.
Using SHOT DOCTOR's highly effective “Successful Six”
model, individual techniques are analyzed and necessary corrections
are prescribed. Around this basic shooting instruction is presented
a well-rounded and time-tested program of general offensive skill
development, including everything from basic footwork to one-on-one
moves to moving without the ball.
Ultimately, it is the goal of every SHOT DOCTOR Program
Director to present a camp that "sows the seeds" of success, which
are the proper technique and right mental approach to
everything from "free throws to three pointers to bank shots to post
play." All of this is accomplished while providing the local Camp
Director with a viable clinic and/or fundraising program that can be
readily followed up.
"ROME WASN'T BUILT IN A DAY"
We also recognize, however, that "planting the seed" is only
the beginning; that the water, sunshine and fertilizer are hard
work, commitment and the desire to improve. SHOT DOCTOR's
"Daily Dozen" drills and fifty-day "Challenge Yourself Program"
are designed to provide the tools to nurture the growth of an
aspiring player of any level.
This year, SHOT DOCTOR will continue to expand the
programs offered to include training not only for the youngest
players, but also specifically for coaches of every level, from the
youth league volunteer to High School head coaches.
"IF MAMA AIN'T HAPPY, AIN'T NOBODY HAPPY"
Over the years, players, parents and coaches have all
discovered that a SHOT DOCTOR Camp is a "Win-Win"
situation for everyone involved. For players, it is fun,
available and affordable. Camp becomes a motivating learning
experience which really delivers its money's worth. For parents,
(especially in rural areas) it's a convenient camp of
national reputation. For coaches, it's an opportunity to
earn significant income while providing a high quality camp
with minimal logistical set-up.
